Perspective is everything... In the middle of his grief, Jesus continued his profound ministry. Or... In the middle of his ministry Jesus experienced profound grief. Either way, Jesus was fully present, fully human, fully faithful.
There is so much in Mark 6. So much goodness. But I am continually struck by the way Mark frames a couple of Jesus' most famous miracles. Jesus feeds the 5,000 and walks on water just after his cousin, his dear friend, the one who baptized him was murdered for political pleasure. Jesus tries, over and over again to find rest, to take time to grieve with his disciples. And when it becomes clear that he won't have rest, he makes sure that his disciples get some.
Isn't it just like Jesus, to consider the needs of his friends above his own? I mean, it is exactly like Jesus.
We could all stand to have a little more Jesus in us.
