Advent

Advent begins November 30 with the Hanging of the Greens Service.

The season of Advent in the United Methodist Church is a time of anticipation and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It marks the beginning of the liturgical year and spans the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. During Advent, we are all invited to reflect on the themes of hope, peace, joy, and love, each symbolized by the lighting of candles on the Advent wreath. This period encourages all to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ, both in commemorating His birth and looking forward to His return. Traditionally, it’s a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, and community outreach, aligning with an emphasis on social justice and service. The season is characterized by readings from the Bible, hymns, and sermons that emphasize the prophetic announcements of Jesus’ coming and the fulfillment of God's promises.
